Bacon's Electoral Connection

Electoral Connection:

Don Bacon

Advertising:
This ad Bacon put out is for name recognition. He makes himself appear approachable and just like any of us. He's as common as the bacon we all love to eat, or at least he tries to make himself seem as good as a greasy piece of bacon.

Social Media:
Don Bacon is on a multitude of social media sites but here are the most common:
                                                     Like on Facebook @RepDonBacon
Follow on Twitter @RepDonBacon
Follow on Instagram @RepDonBacon

All of Bacon's social media platforms are there to help promote his name and build his image. He uses his social media sites as a way to inform the community about his campaign, but doesn't dive into the actual points he intends to argue.

Position Taking:
  • Abortion is a major point that Bacon has taken a pro-life stance on. In his short time in congress here is some legislation he has sponsored or cosponsored:
    • H.R.7 – No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017 (For more info click here)
    • H.R.490 – Heartbeat Protection Act of 2017 (For more info click here)
  • More on Bacon's Pro-life stance here:
    • In 2016, Bacon responded to a questionnaire that he did not believe abortion should be legal in any case even "to prevent the death of the mother."
    • "I’m 100% pro- life, endorsed by Nebraska Right to Life, and committed to support policies that protect the unborn and build a culture of life across our nation and the world.” - Don Bacon, 2016
  • Bacon's involvement in committees is off to a good start. The area where he holds the most experience and credit is the House - Armed Services committee. He has cosponsored a few bills which show his constituents that he is making a difference within that sphere. Though he is important to the committee he isn't doing all the work but is to some extent reaping the benefits of the image that comes with being apart of this committee.

  • At this point it is difficult to tell how much Bacon will spend on travel and franking because of his lack of time in office. Looking at the incumbent, Lee Terry, and neighboring states spending it provides a rough estimate on how much Bacon might spend in those areas.
  • It would be reasonable to believe that Bacon would spend under $20,000 based on the graph.
  • Franked mail is difficult to draw a conclusion from because in the past Nebraska's second congressional district has spent less on franking.

2018 Prediction:

Do you want more Bacon in the future? Looking at past elections, the chances of Don Bacon being reelected in 2018 are high. In the last election, Brad Ashford, a democrat won the election. A democrat as Nebraska's 2nd district congressman isn't unheard of, but not too common. Prior to Ashford's election, Lee Terry, a Republican from Omaha Nebraska, held his position as congressman from 1999 to 2014. With these past political views, Bacon's reelection wouldn't come as a surprise to many. If Bacon sticks with his republican views he could appeal to a large enough population to secure his reelection.

Top Issues:

Bacon on three major issues:
  1. Terrorism
    • "We are barely containing Isis. We need to defeat Isis with assertive leadership, our superior airpower, and special forces."
  2. Government Spending
    • "I support a balanced budget amendment. We need elected officials who will fix this terrible problem."
  3. Illegal Immigration
    • "I support employer enforcement when it comes to hiring illegals. This is the root cause of out illegal immigration problem."

Other Issues:

  • Does not support altering or reducing Social Security for those who are currently in or near retirement
  • Supports a strong national defense
  • Pro-life and will defend traditional family values
  • Committed to reducing taxes and simplifying the tax code
  • Don will repeal Obamacare and work to reduce health-care costs with free market solutions
  • Don will maintain our commitment to veterans and reform the veterans administration
  • Work to balance the budget and reduce spending
  • Work to eliminate burdensome regulations and cut bureaucratic red tape
  • Oppresses common core and will support local control of school

The House Armed Services Committee https://bacon.house.gov/
With his past Air Force Experience, Jon Bacon is ready to share his valuable personal experience and insight on the U.S. Armed Forces. Bacon makes this remark on his selection, "The Omaha-metro is home to Offutt AFB, one of the area’s top employer and thousands of veterans and active duty service members. The men and women who serve our nation in the military deserve the full support and backing of Congress and of the country. That means making sure our troops have the supplies, tools and funding necessary to stay safe and defeat the enemy, and at home it means standing strong against those who wish to trample our Constitutional rights. Providing the needed support will be my top priority.”

House Small Business Committeehttps://bacon.house.gov/small_business
Bacon's main stance on small business and his intent with the House Small Business Committee is to remove the burden that small business owners have to deal with unnecessary regulations that he believes stifles the small business economy.
